The History of Rho Tau Zeta
Knowing the third largest city in New Jersey would benefit from a service organization with genuine interest in serving the greater Paterson community, chapter organizer Lauren Francies Nance initiated a charter for the Paterson chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Nance, along with Paterson resident Sonja Capers and Sorority members Sherry Fulmore Murray, LaDonna B. Carr, Battina Al Razi and Marcia Taylor, chartered the chapter on April 14, 2000. The charter was ceremoniously presented to Rho Tau Zeta at the 2000 National Leadership Conference in Philadelphia.
For seven years the chapter has positively impacted its service areas of Passaic, Bergen and Morris counties through its service projects, fundraisers and networking activities. Service programs include: Mentoring programs, Support to the March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, UNCF and other national partners, Provision of medical supplies and food to the people of South Africa and Support of other organizations, who provide support to the community.
As our chapter legacy grows, Rho Tau Zeta Chapter looks forward to providing additional services and support to our service area.
